Blazers Open Season With 3-2 Victory Over Jacksonville at Outback Steakhouse Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. - The UAB volleyball team (1-0) won a 3-2 decision over Jacksonville (0-1) 30-25, 26-30, 35-33, 25-30, 15-7 to open the season at the Outback Steakhouse Invitational held on the campus of the University of Georgia.

Senior outside hitter Shelly Greene led the Blazers with 25 kills and eight digs and freshman setter Jessica Liptak added 58 assists. Sophomore middle blocker Karen Boyd had a career high 16 kills, added 13 digs and had three total blocks. Junior right side hitter Kristi Lee posted 12 kills and junior middle blocker/outside hitter Allison Magner and sophomore outside hitter Martina Shields each added 10 kills apiece.

Jacksonville was led by Brooke Ahrens, who had 16 kills, nine digs and 4 total blocks and Carrie Bosworth, who had 14 kills, 36 assists and eight digs.

The Outback Steakhouse Invitational continues tomorrow as the Blazers take on Georgia at 1 p.m. (ET) and then face Eastern Kentucky at 4:30 p.m. (ET).
