Owls Honored By AVCA
July 25, 2007 HOUSTON -- The Rice volleyball team was recocognized with a GamePlan/AVCA Team Academic Award, the American Volleyball Coaches Association recently announced. This is fifth-consecutive year for the Owls to be honored. The Owls carried a 3.314 GPA during the 2006-07 academic year. The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale and a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale during the school year. A record 56 NCAA Division I women's programs were honored for the 2006-07 academic year. Rice begins the 2007 campaign Aug. 24-25 when the Owls host Lamar, Louisiana Tech and Oral Roberts in the Mizuno Invitaitonal to be held at Fox Gym.
