Volleyball Spring Update: Wave Places Second at Texas Tornado Tournament
April 16, 2007 The Tulane volleyball team placed second of 21 teams in the Texas Tornado Spring College Tournament this weekend in Houston, Texas. The Green Wave won its pool and advanced to the finals before falling to Oklahoma. Tulane opened tournament play with a loss to Southern California (2-1, all matches were best of three), but rebounded to beat Baylor, 2-1. After a Baylor win over USC, the Green Wave won the pool via tie-breakers and earned the top overall seed in the winners bracket. The pool victory gave the Green Wave a bye to the semifinals, where Tulane defeated New Mexico State, 2-1, to advance to the finals. In the championship game, the Sooners topped Tulane 2-1. The other 16 teams in the tournament were New Mexico, Lamar (pool two with Oklahoma), LSU, Texas Tech, SMU (pool three), Stephen F. Austin, Houston (pool four with New Mexico State), Wichita State, Rice, North Texas (pool five), Louisiana Tech, UNLV, Texas A&M (pool six), TCU, UTEP and Alabama (pool seven). Tulane's spring season continues Saturday with a six-team tournament at home. The Green Wave will play host to LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, UNO and Southern Miss with simultaneous matches at the Reilly Center and one match at Fogelman Arena.
