Meinig Hired As Cincinnati Assistant Volleyball Coach
CINCINNATI, Ohio — Former Bearcat standout Stephanie Meinig has been hired as an assistant volleyball coach at the University of Cincinnati. Meinig, whose career ended after the 2000 season, spent last season as a student assistant for UC.
"I think she is a great addition to our program," said head coach Reed Sunahara. "She knows our system and understands what we want and need from her. She got a lot out of being the student assistant last year and she is well on her way to becoming a great coach."
Meinig was a two-time, first-team All-Conference USA selection as a middle blocker at UC. She ended her career as the all-time leader in blocks in both UC and Conference USA history. She also holds Cincinnati records for most games played in a career and ranks ninth in career kills.
"It was an easy transition to start coaching here," said Meinig. "I know the coaching style here. I'm learning a lot about different aspects of the game and coaching. I think I'm growing as a coach."
Meinig, who earned her degree in health promotions from UC in December, spent the spring of 2001 coaching the Moeller High School freshman team.
