COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Marshall women's tennis team's No. 59 juniors' duo Kellie Schmitt (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Karolina Soor (Lindesberg, Sweden) completed second day of play, Friday at the 2007 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship as one of the top eight doubles in the nation with a loss to Brook Buck and Kelcy Tefft. The Thundering Herd duo also entered the women's tennis history with the highest doubles finish for any Herd at the Indoor Championships.

Marshall's Schmitt and Soor were defeated Friday morning by the number nine nationally-ranked pair of Brook Buck and Kelcy Tefft of Notre Dame in the quarterfinals, 9-7.

"I felt the Notre Dame team did a good job competing this morning," Marshall head coach John Mercer said. "We had our opportunities during the match to win but couldn't finish the big points."

The last time the Herd was represented at the Indoor Championships was in 2003 when the pair of Jessica Johnson and Ashley Kroh lost in the consolation semifinals.

"I am proud of the girls for making it to one of the top eight doubles team," coach Mercer added. "We now have to look forward to the spring and continue the success."

Championship competition will continue through Sunday, Nov. 4 with all matches hosted by the Ohio State University and played at the Racquet Club of Columbus.
