Tennis Teams Get Tickets Punched

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa's men's tennis team (19-6) and the women's tennis team (21-4) each learned of their NCAA tournament destinations at a watch party hosted at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The men's squad, ranked No. 18 in the nation, will head to Baton Rouge, La., to face Vanderbilt, while the women, ranked No. 42 in the country, will pack its bags for Nashville, Tenn., to face Tennessee. The men will face off with a Vanderbilt team that was 10-12 on the year and 4-8 in the SEC. The Commodores are ranked No. 45 in the nation, and are led by Vijay Paul who has put together a 13-7 record this spring, including a 13-2 mark at the four position. In the other match in the region, the host and No. 15 seed overall LSU will face Alcorn State. The women will face a 13-10 Tennessee team that was 6-5 in the SEC. The Lady Vols have won seven of their last 10 matches and are ranked No. 21 in the nation. In the other regional matchup, the host and No. 16 seed overall Vanderbilt will face Murray State. This marks the ninth trip to the NCAA tournament for the men, with the last coming a year ago where the Hurricane went 1-1 with a 4-1 win over Middle Tennessee State before falling to Baylor, 4-0. This will be the third trip to the postseason for the women, with the last trip coming in 2004 when they fell to Oklahoma, 4-1. Match times will be released at a later date. The draw for the singles and doubles portion of the NCAA tournament will be released on May 2 on NCAAsports.com.
