Rice's Bruno Rosa is this week's Conference USA Men's Tennis Player of the Week after opening his Rice career with a perfect 7-0 singles record. Rosa defeated opponents from No. 7 Texas, No. 8 Illinois and No. 46 Arizona State, including No. 53 Dimitar Kutrovsky of Texas 7-6, 6-2. The Brazilian also won the prestigious National Collegiate Tennis Classic and earned a wild card entry into the ATP Tour Pacific Life Open qualifier. Marshall's Kellie Schmitt is the C-USA Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Schmitt, ranked No. 19 in the latest ITA rankings, went a pefect 6-0 in singles and doubles play last week in Marshall's first action of the spring.

BRUNO ROSA - Rice

Rosa opened his Rice career in impressive fashion by compiling a 7-0 singles record to open the spring season. Rosa joined teammate No. 34 Christoph Muller as the only Owls to win all three of their singles matches at the Arizona State Invitational. He defeated opponents from No. 7 Texas, No. 8 Illinois and No. 46 Arizona State, including No. 53 Dimitar Kutrovsky of Texas 7-6, 6-2. The Brazilian also won the prestigious National Collegiate Tennis Classic and earned a wild card entry into the ATP Tour Pacific Life Open qualifier held from March 10-23. Rosa dropped just one set in the tournament en route to wins over opponents from No. 9 UCLA and No. 50 San Diego State. This is Rosa's first career weekly honor.

Kellie Schmitt - Marshall

Schmitt, ranked No. 19 in the latest ITA rankings, went a pefect 6-0 in singles and doubles play last week in Marshall's first action of the spring. The junior won three singles matches at the No. 1 slot in The Herd lineup against Morehead State, No. 34 Kentucky and in-state rival West Virginia, while dropping just five games along the way. In doubles, all three of Schmitt's wins also came at the No. 1 position, including a victory over the No. 20 pair from Kentucky. Schmitt and doubles partner Karolina Soor are ranked No. 15 in the latest rankings. The weekly honor is the fifth of Schmitt's career, her first in 2008.
