Women's Tennis Wraps up Florida State Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's tennis team concluded its fall season Sunday when it closed out the final day of the Florida State Invitational. Seniors Anna Yakimchenkova and Jennifer Carati and freshman Isa Ohlinger all won their respective singles matches for the Knights. Ohlinger grabbed fifth place in the white bracket, defeating Sarai Torres of South Carolina State, 0-6, 6-4, 1-0(10-8). Yakimchenkova cruised past New Mexico's Maria Sotirchos, 6-3, 6-3, for seventh place in the black bracket. And Carati also claimed seventh with a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(10-4) triumph over Jacksonville's Iva Jarasova in the silver draw. Three doubles brackets were contested Friday and Saturday and the Knights had two pairs competing. In the black bracket, Yakimchenkova and Ohlinger teamed up to win their first match but suffered a loss in the semifinals. However, they bounced back to defeat Kansas' Maria Martinez and Mymie Tokuda for third place. Carati partnered with junior Elvira Serrot in the garnet draw and went to post a sixth-place performance. UCF returns to the courts in January when it travels to Ft. Myers for the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament Jan. 19-21. The Knights begin the dual-match schedule at Florida Jan. 24.
