Bloczynska Claims Title At UNT Classic

Weronika Blocyzynska cruised to a straight set victory against a player from North Texas to secure the Flight 1 Championship and cap off the UTEP tennis team's fall season on a high note at the UNT Classic on Saturday. Bloczynska was in top form, posting the 6-3, 6-2 triumph. It allowed the junior to finish the event at a perfect 3-0. "I'm really proud of Weronika for how well she played to claim the Flight 1 championship," UTEP head coach Jamie Campbell said. Marina Deluca and Ximena Fuentes also vied for a flight title, doing so at Flight 2 doubles. UTEP's duo fought hard, but fell by a score of 8-6. It was a taxing day for the other Miners in doubles play. Blockzynksa/Amber Brightly were dispatched by a tandem from the homestanding Mean Green, 8-6, in Flight 1 doubles. In Flight 3 doubles, Harmonie Chatagner/Vicky Michaud were send packing by a group from UNT, 8-5. Deluca competed in Fight 2 singles action, dropping a challenging match to a UNT player by a score of 6-2, 6-4. Fuentes met the same fate as her teammate in Flight 3, suffering a loss by the identical score. Michaud was tripped up by a player from UNT, 6-1, 6-2, in Flight 4 singles, as was Chatagner in Flight 5 singles by a final score of 6-1, 6-3. Brightly rounded out the action for the Miners in Flight 6 singles play, falling 6-3, 6-3.
