LUBBOCK - The Rice women's tennis continued action Sunday on day three of the ITA Southwest Regionals at the McCleod Tennis Center on the Texas Tech campus.

Julie Chao recoverd from a slow start against Baylor's Karolina Filipiak after dropping the opening set 6-1. The C-USA Tennis Player of the Month stormed back with a gritty 6-4 triumph in the second set before falling in a hard-fought 7-5 decision in the deciding third set.

Dominique Karas tallied a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win, while Rebecca Lin earned a default victory in consolation action. Christine Dao and Tiffany Lee lost their consolation tilts.

In doubles action, Lin and Varsha Shiva-Shankar had to retire down 2-1 in their Round of 16 match. Karas and Chao along with Lee and Dao fell 8-5 in their respective doubles matches.

The Owls continue consolation action Monday.
