Marshall's Michaela Sceli claims this week's Conference USA Swimmer of the Week award after placing first in all six events she swam, setting personal best times and natatorium records in the process. The senior claimed titles in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard medley relay. Teammate Siobhan Schuurman is the Diver of the Week. Schuurman also set personal bests and school record scores against Radford and Vanderbilt. The junior finished first on both boards during each event.
SWIMMER OF THE WEEK (11/13)
MICHAELA SCELI - Marshall
Sr., Lasalle, Ontario, Canada (St. Thomas of Villanova)
Sceli won both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events in 1:06.43 and 2:24.82, respectively, to help lead Marshall to a 197.5-85.5 victory over Radford. The Ontario native also picked up a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay. Against Vanderbilt, the senior broke her previous school-record of 1:04.55 in the 100 breast, clocking in at 1:04.53. She finished the 200 breast in a time of 2:20.90. Both times were Fredrick A. Fitch Natatorium records. Later in the event she helped the Herd to another first-place finish in the 200 medley relay. This is the first C-USA weekly award for Sceli.
DIVER OF THE WEEK (11/13)
SIOBAHN SCHUURMAN - Marshall
Jr., Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (Ross Sheppard)
Schuurman set a new school record on the one-meter springboard and set a new personal best on the three-meter board during Marshall's win over Radford. She recorded scores of 280.72 and 238.80, respectively, and took home two first-place finishes. The junior earned NCAA Zone Championship qualification with her score in the one-meter. In Marshall's win over Vanderbilt, Schuurman set two new pool records. She scored 257.10 in the one-meter and 239.18 in the three-meter to break her personal-best in that event. Both scores were good for first place. The weekly award is the first of Schuurman's career.
