WILMINGTON, N.C. - The UNC Wilmington men's swimming and diving team won the 400 freestyle relay, the last event of the meet, to hold off East Carolina, 128-115. Meanwhile, the Pirates women's team won nine events in defeating the UNCW women's team, 148-95, on Saturday.
With the win, the Lady Pirates up their record to 5-1, while the men drop to 4-2 with their loss.
Freshman Casey Cronin had another great meet as he captured the 200 IM (1:55.46) and the 100 freestyle (47.11). Sophomore Matt Walker won the 200 freestyle (1:41.70) and finished second in the 500 freestyle (4:36.28).
On the women's side, freshman Diane Parker and senior Courtney Foster each won two events. Parker claimed the 200 IM (2:06.51) and the 200 breaststroke (2:22.41), while Foster recorded wins in the 50 (24.47) and 100 (53.06) freestyles.
"I thought it was a very tough meet and that our kids did a great job," said Head Coach Rick Kobe. "We knew this wasn't going to be an easy meet, Wilmington was ready for us, but both the men and women did excellent jobs today."
The Pirates will next participate in the Nike Cup held in Chapel Hill, N.C., on November 15-17.
