C-USA Nov. 9 Swimmer/Diver of the Week

Diana Parker

SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Senior Diana Parker of East Carolina captures her first 2004 weekly accolade as she was named Conference USA Swimmer of the Week. Despite Parker's pair of wins last weekend against intra-state rival Duke, the Pirates fell to the Blue Devils in a down-to-the-wire meet, 123-120.

Parker won the 200 Individual Medley relay with a time of 2:05.83 and the 200-yard Breaststroke event with a time of 2:18.84 in Durham, N.C. last weekend. Both times were her season best and top the conference for 2004. Given Parker's efforts, the Pirates led 114-112 going into the final event, needing the victory to win the meet. However, the 400 Freestyle relay team came up short in the final relay losing by only a tenth of a second (3:33.81). Parker and her teammates will return to action this Saturday as they travel to Washington, D.C. to face George Washington University.

DIVER OF THE WEEK
Tulane's Danielle Carrillo collected her first two collegiate diving awards this weekend en route to being named C-USA Diver of the Week. The freshman led the Green Wave to a sweep of North Texas, Henderson State and host Arkansas-Little Rock in a quad-meet on Saturday. Carrillo is the second freshman to garner the weekly accolade.

Carrillo posted wins in the 1- and 3-meter Springboard events this weekend to boost Tulane to 7-1 on the season and extend the team's win streak to five opponents. Carrillo's 1-meter score of 217.85 was 12.50 points better than second-placed Lauren Page of North Texas. Her 3-meter title (227.40) also passed UNT's Page by a margin of 22.70 points. The rookie Carrillo helped the Green Wave to claim 14 of the 16 events for the day. Tulane returns to action on Saturday as the Green Wave hosts Arkansas-Little Rock and cross-town foe UNO at 10 a.m. at the Reily Student Recreation Center Natatorium.
