Houston's Stacey Williams earns C-USA Swimmer of the Week honors, while Saint Louis' Kristi Cottral captures Diver of the Week accolades.
Swimmer of the Week Stacey Williams (Fr. – Perth, Australia) – Houston Williams made a strong impression in her first collegiate meet, capturing the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.28) and 100 freestyle (54.48) events to lead the Cougars to a 167-76 win over North Texas in dual-meet action. Both times rank first on the 2002-03 C-USA Top Times list and her time of 1:56.28 in the 200 freestyle would have been a UH season-best in 2001-02. She also was a member of the Cougars’ victorious 200-yard freestyle relay, posting a time of 1:41.52. Under first-year head coach Mark Taylor, Houston is 1-0 this season, the first time since 1992, when the Cougars opened with a win over Rice. Diver of the Week Kristi Cottral (Sr. – Honolulu, Hawaii) – Saint Louis Cottral claimed a first-place finish on the three-meter springboard and a second-place showing on the one-meter to lead the Billikens to a 151-92 win at Western Illinois. She won the three-meter competition against Western Illinois with a score of 228.45, while posting a 219.82 point total on the one-meter. After going 0-10 in 2001-02, Saint Louis is off to a 2-0 start in dual-meet action this season.
