ECU Swimmers Defeat College of Charleston

Charleston, S.C. - The East Carolina swimming and diving teams dominated their dual meet versus the College of Charleston. The men's team won 117-88, while the women won 130-95. The score would be higher for ECU, but they exhibitioned seven events, giving the points to the Cougars. Both Pirate teams are now 2-0 on the season following the wins.

The meet was held in a short course 25-meter pool, which is a larger pool than what the Pirates normally use.

"The times may seem slow, but it's because the pool is larger than what we normally swim in," said head coach Rick Kobe. "In fact, we swam really well today, I'm very proud of the effort."

The talented youth of the Pirates showcased their abilities as freshmen Brad Bumgarner won the men's 200 fly (2:14.81), Diane Parker won the women's 200 breast(2:42.81), and Greg Detwiler and Ryan Faught swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter men's diving events.

"Greg swept his diving events for consecutive meets," said diving coach Rich MacDonald. "He's been really impressive this year and his ability to score has helped out the team a lot."

Senior Courtney Foster won the women's 100 free(59.84), while senior Jessica Hunt took first in 1-meter diving(217.87).

The Pirates will travel to Davidson next Saturday, October 27 as they face the Wild Cats. Competition begins at 1:00 pm.
