Stephanie Putzi Joins UC Swim Staff

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Stephanie Putzi, a former NCAA All-American swimmer at Auburn University and most recently assistant coach at the school, has been named assistant coach for the University of Cincinnati men's and women's swimming and diving teams.

Putzi has served as graduate assistant coach at Auburn for the men's and women's programs the past two years. She helped develop American record-holder Maggie Bowen and All-Americans Margaret Hoelzer, Heather Kemp and Eileen Coparropa in the women's program, which won the 2002 NCAA title, and men's All-Americans Mark Gangloff, Kirk Hempleton, Derek Gibb and U.S. Olympic breaststroker Patrick Calhoun.

Putzi previously started both the women's and men's swimming programs at Lewis University during her three seasons (1997-00) at the Romeoville, Ill. school, coaching six NCAA Division II All-Americans.

A 1991 Auburn grad, where she earned All-American and Academic All-American honors, Putzi served as age group coach at the Sarasota, Fla. YMCA for two years. In 1994 she became certification coordinator for the American Swimming Coaches Association.

"I am very excited about having Stephanie join our coaching staff," stated UC head swimming coach Monty Hopkins. "She was instrumental in the success enjoyed this past year when Auburn won the women's NCAA national championship.

"She brings a wealth of administrative and coaching experience," Hopkins continued. "I expect her greatest contributions to be in recruiting and daily coaching where her knowledge and enthusiasm will make an immediate and significant impact."
