Cincinnati's Oberg Earns Swimming All-American Honors

Austin, Texas---For the second consecutive year, University of Cincinnati senior swimmer Maria Oberg (Sjobo, Sweden/Klippans Gymnaneskola) has earned All-American honors in the 500 freestyle. Oberg narrowly missed a school record by just .04 seconds en route to a fifth place finish Thursday, finishing with a mark of 4:42.77. After placing seventh in last year's NCAA meet in the same event, Oberg became the 15th woman in program history to earn back-to-back All-America honors. In the preliminaries, Oberg posted
the seventh quickest time, with a mark of 4:42.98 to qualify for the finals.

Earlier in the day, UC's other female NCAA qualifier, senior Marein de Jong (Bussum, Netherlands/St. Vitus College) tied for 24th in the 50 freestyle preliminaries
with a time of 23.14.
