INDIANAPOLIS - East Carolina captured its first C-USA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship with a team score of 764.50 on Tuesday at the IU Natatorium. TCU defended its C-USA Men's Invitational title with a total score of 906.

"It was a great three days," said East Carolina head coach Rich Kobe, who was named C-USA Women's Coach of the Meet after today's victory. "We are so happy as can be to be the first women's team to win a C-USA Championship. It gives us three different conference championships over four years. In 2000 the team was CAA champions, 2001 ECAC and today's victory in C-USA. We are really proud of the girls, and excited that we can win this prestigious championship meet."

TCU’s Aimee Moreau won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.67. Teammate Erin Irons captured her second individual title of the meet, placing first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.98.

Cincinnati earned several individual event wins on the third day with Emma Gustafsson winning the 200 breaststroke (2:16.30), while freshman Ann Degenstein placed first in the 200-yard butterfly, posting an NCAA “B’ standard time of 2:01.50. Shauna Conrad finished the night, earning the 1,650 freestyle event title with a time of 16:56.49.

On the men’s side, TCU’s Craig Chapman opened the night, capturing first place in the 200-yard backstroke (1:45.56). Teammate Aaron McLachlan won the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:50.23.

“I am very proud of both of our teams,” TCU head coach Richard Sybesma said. “I think that our performances - from the men defending their Invitational title to the women fighting back from a tough first day to finish within 70 points of the championship - says a lot about our student-athletes. We are all excited about the present and future of Horned Frog swimming and diving.”

In the 100 freestyle, Cincinnati claimed first and second place, as Ryan Yearwood notched a meet record time of 44.97 for first place. Teammate David Gustavsson followed in second (45.27). UC’s Scott Davison defended his C-USA title in the 1,650 freestyle with a meet record time of 15.11.81.

Louisville’s Sean Wilkinson swept the diving events for the second consecutive C-USA Championship, winning the platform with a score of 490.90. On the women’s side Houston’s Azul Almazan captured the platform with a score of 477.65.
