The C-USA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship and Men's Invitational got underway on Sunday, Feb. 17., at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. Cincinnati leads on the women's side with a total of 222 points, followed by East Carolina (209), Houston (159), TCU (157), Louisville (104) and Saint Louis (86). On the men's side, TCU is in first place with 306 points, followed by East Carolina (234), Cincinnati (170), Saint Louis (89) and Louisville (84).

INDIANAPOLIS - In the first day of the Inaugural C-USA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship, Cincinnati has taken the lead with a team score of 222 after capturing three events on Sunday, Feb. 17, at the IU Natatorium. East Carolina stands in second place, followed by Houston (159), TCU (157), Louisville (104) and Saint Louis (86).

In the C-USA Men's Invitational, TCU stands in first (306), followed by East Carolina (234), Cincinnati (170), Saint Louis (89) and Louisville (84).

Cincinnati opened the night with the team of Marien de Jong, Nelly Jorgesen, Granny Meyer and Jenny Ellis winning the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.13. In the lead-off, De Jong also posted a C-USA record and NCAA automatic time of 22.97.

Cincinnati's Maria Oberg followed with a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle, registering a C-USA record time of 4:45.90. In the 200 individual medley, Diane Parker posted a time of 2:03.27 for first place, while TCU's Jamie MacCurdy finished in second (2:04.97). Earlier in the day, Parker captured the C-USA record with a time of 2:03.12 in the prelim session.

On the men's side, the TCU team of Aaron Ewert, Jeff Parkinson, Mitch Loper and Dana Loper won the 200 freestyle relay with a C-USA record time of 1:21.92.

Cincinnati's Scott Davison earned the first individual title of the night, touching first in the 500 freestyle (4:27.21). East Carolina's Casey Cronin took top honors in the 200 IM with a time of 1:51.61, while TCU's Aaron McLachlan followed in second (1:51.88).

In diving, the 2001 NCAA Champion Yulia Pakhalina continued her winning ways with a first-place finish on the one-meter springboard (370.15). She was followed by Louisville's Katie Collins with 237.15 and Cincinnati's Cassie Kellerman in third with 231.55. On the men's side, Louisville's Sean Wilkinson totaled 549.70 points to finish in first, while TCU's Stephen Gebren placed second with a score of 482.60.

The 2002 C-USA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship and Men's Invitational will continue on Monday, Feb. 18 with prelims beginning at 9 a.m. (CST). Monday's finals are slated for 5 p.m. (CST).
