SLU Swimming Tops EIU In Season Finale

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University swimming and diving took both halves of its dual meet at Eastern Illinois on Saturday with the men winning 125-112 and the women taking a 140-107 victory.

For the men, Saint Louis got six first-place finishes, including a pair from freshman John Stoneburner and sophomore diver Bobby Wolf. The Billikens opened the meet with a victory in the 400 medley relay. Stoneburner scored the first of his wins with a time of 2:00.69 in the 200 IM, followed by Wolf's victory on the one-meter board. The pair again went back-to-back with Stoneburner's 4:47.31 in the 500 free leading to Wolf's performance on the three-meter board. Freshman Steve Webb rounded out the top finishers with a 2:18.62 in the 200 breast.

A quartet of women posted double victories for the Billikens. Freshman Marisa Mackos swept the distance free events with wins in the 1000 and 500. Sophmore Megan Capellupo took first in the 200 IM and 200 fly with times of 2:12.58 and 2:19.13, respectively. Senior diver Kristi Cottral won both diving events for the third-straight meet. Freshman Kelly Tessar completed the quartet with times of 2:13.23 in the 200 back and 2:27.87 in the 200 breast. Both Billiken relay teams also claimed first to bookend the meet.

The Billikens have two weeks off before the Conference USA Championships at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. Competition begins on Sun., Feb. 22.
