ECU tops TCU in Women's Swimming
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams split their first Conference USA meet. The Pirates won 135-102, while the TCU men won 140-101.
"This was a great meet for us," said Head Coach Rick Kobe. "It was close the entire way, especially for the guys, but it was a great meet overall heading into the home-stretch of the season."
For the women, senior Courtney Foster turned in a great effort on Senior Day as she broke her own records with a pair of first-place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyles. Foster swam the 50 free in 23.71 and the 100 free in 51.46.
The Pirates jumped out to an early start winning the 400 medley relay (3:54.14), followed by seniors Dana Fuller (10:37.54) and Julie Brenegan finishing first and second, respectively, in the 1000 freestyle.
The East Carolina women closed the door on the Frogs after senior Jessica Hunt and junior Carrie Wright finished first and second in the one-meter dive. Hunt recorded a 239.15, her season-best, while Wright scored a 226.8
The Pirates improve their record to 8-1, while the men fall to 5-3. The Pirates return to action January 27 as they travel to UMBC for their regular season finale versus UMBC and George Washington. The meet will start at 1:00 p.m.
