TCU Swimming and Diving Defeated Louisiana-Monroe

MONROE, La. (January 17, 2003) - The TCU men’s and women’s swimming and diving squads continued their winning ways as both teams claimed wins at Louisiana-Monroe Friday night. The Lady Frogs won their 10th-straight dual meet, defeating the ULM 129-101, while the men moved to 7-4 on the season with a 132-100 win over the Indians.
Four swimmers - Erin Irons (Midland, Texas/Midland) and Aimee Moreau (Kenner, La./St. Martin’s Episcopal) for the women and Aaron Ewert (Dallas, Texas/Garland) and Jeff Parkinson (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) of the men’s squad - won three events each to lead the Horned Frogs.
Irons, the defending Conference USA Swimmer of the Week, won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events in 1:53.90 and 5:10.58, respectively, as well as helping the Frogs’ 400 free relay to victory in 3:39.13. Moreau took the title in the 200 backstroke (2:08.13) and earned wins with the 400 free and 400 medley (4:02.64) relays.
On the men’s side, Ewert tallied wins in the 50 (21.41) and 100 (48.06) and also swam with TCU’s victorious 400 medley relay (3:30.11). Parkinson joined Ewert on the 400 medley relay and also notched wins with the 400 free relay (3:13.83) and individually in the 200 free (1:44.88).
“I am very pleased with our effort tonight,” TCU head coach Richard Sybesma said. “Louisiana-Monroe is a talented team that has given us fits in years past and our team responded to that challenge.”
Both squads will wrap up their trip to Louisiana when they face Centenary Saturday afternoon in Shreveport. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
