IRVING, Texas - In Conference USA Swimming and Diving action last week, Houston defeated North Texas, New Mexico State and Florida International in a quad meet to extend their winning streak to six. The Cougars also pushed their UH single-season record dual meet win total to 15.
East Carolina split its weekend contests, while Rice also defeated New Mexico State in a dual. No. 8 SMU dropped a tough 178.5-115.5 decision to No. 5 Texas A&M on Saturday and Marshall was also the recipient of two tough losses, falling to Ohio State and Northwestern.
SWIMMER/DIVER of the Week (1/16)
Sasha Schwendenwein of Houston and Christie Icenhower of East Carolina take this week's Conference USA Swimmer and Diver of the Week Awards, respectively. Schwendenwein was the Cougars' leading performer during their weekend quad meet as she won all eight events in which she competed whether as an individual or as a member of a relay team. Icenhower set an ECU record on the three-meter board against UNC-Wilmington with a score of 332.40 and also won the one-meter board.

SASHA SCHWENDENWEIN - Houston

Schwendenwein was the Cougars' leading performer during wins over North Texas, New Mexico State and Florida International in a quad meet last weekend. The sophomore won all eight events in which she competed whether as an individual or as a member of a relay team. She swam the anchor leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team which posted a time of 1:48.70 and then won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.12. Schwendenwein grabbed top honors in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.74 and also swam the third leg of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team with a time of 3:33.08 to conclude the first day of the meet. The native of South Africa posted the fastest split among the Cougars (52.60) on that 400 freestyle relay team. Schwendenwein started the second day of the quad meet as the anchor of the winning 400-yard medley relay team which posted a time of 3:57.05. She then won the very next event - the 500-yard freestyle - with a time of 5:04.07. She also placed first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.28. To cap off the event, Schwendenwein swam the second leg of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team which clocked in with a time of 1:38.35. Once again, the sophomore posted the fastest split among the Cougars (24.40) on that 200 freestyle relay team.
DIVER Diver of the Week (1/16)
CHRISTIE ICENHOWER - East Carolina

Icenhower set an ECU record on the three-meter board with a score of 332.40, breaking her own school record of 296.10 also set against UNC-Wilmington in 2005, to help lead the Pirates to a 158-85 win over UNCW on Sunday. She also claimed top honors on the one-meter board with a score of 263.70. The junior earned a first-place finish on the three-meter board against Virginia Tech on Saturday with a score of 276.07. This is the second weekly honor for Icenhower this season (Oct. 24).

Conference USA will name an Swimmer and Diver of the week throughout the regular season. The Athlete of the Week awards are selected by the C-USA media relations department and announced every Tuesday throughout the season.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

MEGAN PULASKI - East Carolina
Pulaski tallied four first place finishes over the weekend winning the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events against Virginia Tech and UNC Wilmington.
ANASTASIA POZDNIAKOVA- Houston
Pozdniakova was the leading performer in both diving events to lead the Cougars to wins over New Mexico State, Florida International and North Texas in a quad meet. She scored a CRWC Natatorium-record 382.00 points to win the 3-meter competition and posted 325.15 points to win the 1-meter event the next day. She was the only diver to score at least 300.00 points in any event and she accomplished that feat in both events.
CAITLIN WARNER - Rice
Warner won two events to lead the Rice swim team to a dual meet victory over visiting New Mexico State at the Rice Pool on Jan. 10. Though normally a distance specialist, Warner sprinted to a win in the 200-yard freestyle with a career-best time of 1:56.08. The standout from Clearwater, Fla., then came back three events later and raced to a narrow win the 200-butterfly with a time of 2:09.31.
PETRA KLOSOVA - SMU
Klosova took first-place in the 100 free with a time of 50.25 and she placed fourth in the 100 back with a time of 56.29. Klosova was the first leg of the second-place 200 medley relay team that posted a time of 1:43.49. She was a member of the second-place 400 free relay and as the final leg of the 400 free relay, she was able to close the gap with the leader and was inches away from winning the relay.
KRISTIN SCHILD - SMU
Schild won first-place off of both boards for the Mustangs against No. 5 Texas A&M this weekend. In the one-meter diving event, she posted a score of 255.00. She posted a career-high score of 302.92 in the three-meter diving event.
