TCU's Erin Irons captured C-USA Swimmer of the Week honors, after leading the Horned Frogs to a 78-62 win over Southwest Missouri State. Houston's Yulia Pakhalina earned Diver of the Week accolades for the period ending Jan. 12. She swept the springboard events in dual-meet action against New Mexico and New Mexico State
Swimmer of the Week Erin Irons (Jr. – Midland, Texas) – TCU Irons won four events to help TCU to its eighth-straight win, defeating Southwest Missouri State, 78-62, on Jan. 12. Irons opened the meet as the anchor leg of TCU’s victorious 200 medley relay team that set a SMS Hammons Center pool record of 1:50.21. Individually, Irons captured the 50 (24.12), 100 (53.20) and 200 (1:55.15) freestyle events to secure the Frog’s victory. Irons currently holds the best conference times in the 50 (23.87), 100 (52.28) and 500 (5:03.33) freestyle.
Diver of the Week Yulia Pakhalina (Sr. –Penza, Russia) – Houston Despite battling the flu, Pakhalina swept both the one-meter and three-meter springboard events in dual-meet action against New Mexico and New Mexico State, last weekend. She notched a score of 347.40 on the one-meter, while securing a first-place finish on the three-meter with a score of 378.52. Pakhalina ended the trip with a pair of victories on the three-meter (344.35) and one-meter boards (360.00) at New Mexico State. She has now won 52 events in her collegiate career out of 56 outings.
