Swimmer of the Week (Jan. 11) Tulane’s Samantha Berdine posted two individual wins and a pair of relay victories last week en route to earning her first Conference USA Swimmer of the Week honor. The freshman was named Female Swimmer of the Meet on Saturday, following her impressive performances at the dual meet with the UNO/NOKIA Sugar Bowl Invitational and North Texas.

Berdine posted four victories (two individual, two relay), a pair of third-place finishes and a fifth-place showing to help the Green Wave win its second invitational of the 2004-05 season last Saturday and improve their record to 13-1 in dual meet action. The freshman won the 200-yard Freestyle event with a time of 1:55.04 and the 400-yard Individual Medley (4:36.07). Berdine currently ranks fourth in the conference in the 200 Free (1:54.06). She also swam the leadoff leg of Tulane’s victorious 800-yard Free Relay (7:48.20/1:54.94 split) and the anchor leg of the winning 400-yard Free Relay (3:37.38/53.04 split). Berdine tallied 72 individual points and 108 relay points as the Green Wave claimed the title by a 536.5-point margin.
Diver of the Week (Jan. 11) Freshman Danielle Carrillo collected her second C-USA Diver of the Week honor following her performances in Tulane’s first-place showing at the UNO/NOKIA Sugar Bowl Invitational and victory over North Texas in a simultaneously-scored dual meet at the Lakefront Arena Aquatic Center on Jan. 8.
Danielle Carrillo, Tulane - Freshman, Kirkland, Wash. (Inglemoor)
Once again, Carrillo was the Green Wave’s only diver to participate; however, her efforts were pertinent. She won both the one- and three-meter springboard competition in Tulane’s dual-meet last Saturday. Carrillo scored a 232.57 in the one-meter, and posted a 203.93 in the three-meter. With the dual-meet win, the Green Wave extend its winning streak to 10 with the lone loss of the year coming to No. 17 Florida State on Oct. 15 in Tallahassee, Fla.
