SLU's Yagge Tabbed Academic All-American

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University junior Beth Yagge (Millstadt, Ill. / Belleville West) earned a spot on the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America Softball third team after a first-team All-District selection in May. The national award honors the top student-athletes at each position who display a balance between academic and athletic credentials. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be at least sophomores in academic standing with a cumulative grade point average over 3.20 and are starters or important reserves.

A physical therapy major, Yagge started all 51 games this season, 49 at first base. Yagge finished second on the team in hitting at .315, which is the 10th best single-season average in the program's history. She tied for the team lead with 10 doubles, was second with 21 runs scored and had 16 RBI. She led the team in fielding percentage at .993 and committed just two errors in 306 chances. In just three seasons with the Billikens, she ranks among the program's top 10 in every offensive category.

The Billikens finished the season with a record of 24-27 overall, 5-17 in Conference USA.
