STARKVILLE, Miss. - The University of Houston softball team received 14 votes Wednesday in the final edition of the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll as announced by the NFCA office. This is the first time in program history that the Cougars have notched votes in the final poll.

"This is a big confidence booster for our program," head coach Kyla Holas said. "We're right there knocking on the door for being in the Top 25. We're disappointed that our performance in regionals didn't warrant a spot in the Top 25, but that gives us motivation for next season to send a statement on opening weekend."

Houston (44-18) is coming off a program-record 44 victories and the program's first Conference USA regular season and tournament titles. The Cougars were one win away from the program's first NCAA Super Regional appearance.
