Two DePaul Softball Players Named Academic All-Americans

CHICAGO - DePaul softball players Lindsay Chouinard and Sarah Martz were both named third-team Verizon Academic All-American it was announced today.
The Verizon Academic All-America Teams are selected by a vote of the 1,800-member CoSIDA. To be eligible, an athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. Sports information directors nominate eligible athletes from their schools who are named to district teams prior to being voted upon the national level. Chouinard and Martz's honors mark the 15th time in the past 15 years that a DePaul softball player has earned such an honor.
Chouinard, a junior pitcher from Fresno, Calif., carries a 3.32 GPA in Accounting and Business. She finished the season as a second-team All-American, the Conference USA Pitcher of the Year and the Most Valuable Player of both the NCAA Region II Tournament and the C-USA Tournament. Chouinard posted a sparkling 32-6 record with a 0.47 ERA.
Martz, a Lanark, Ill. native, was the only sophomore to earn mention on the 34-member squad. She carries a 3.71 GPA in Secondary Education/Mathematics and was a first-team All-C-USA pick this season. Martz hit .335 with 13 doubles and six triples while stealing 13 bases and finished with a 12-3 record as a pitcher.
DePaul finished the season 50-11 and ranked 11th in the final NFCA/USA Today Top 25 poll.
