DePaul first baseman Saskia Roberson and USF outfielder Tiffany Stewart were among 54 softball players to be named to the 2005 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-America first, second and third teams on Thursday. Roberson and Stewart were each selected to the third team after helping their teams reach the NCAA Tournament.
Roberson, who collected her third-consecutive All-America honor, hit .360 with 15 home runs and 44 RBI this season. With her senior-year totals, Roberson now holds C-USA career records in both home runs (51) and RBI (178). The Blue Demons are still alive in postseason play as the team advanced to the NCAA Women’s College World Series for the third time in school history.
Stewart earned her first All-America accolade after batting .399 with nine home runs and 40 RBI this season. The junior, who held a league-high average of .438 in C-USA contests, helped lead the Bulls to the championship game of NCAA Region 15 action in Gainesville, Fla., before falling to Bethune-Cookman.
Conference USA has produced 16 NFCA All-Americans since the league began sponsoring the sport in 2000.
