Charlotte's Huffstetler Selected To Attend 2004 NCAA Leadership Conference

Karianne Huffstetler

Sophomore softball player Karianne Huffstetler has been chosen to represent the Charlotte 49ers in the annual NCAA Leadership Conference. The event, held in Florida, is designed to encourage leadership among student-athletes through interactive programs.

The conference will take place May 30-June 3 at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex and the Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Each 49ers head coach recommended one athlete from their team to the university's Life Skills department. After careful consideration, the department sent the names of four student-athletes to the NCAA. The NCAA then chose Huffstetler, who was nominated for her enthusiasm, dedication, and positive attitude both on and off the field, as the representative for the Charlotte 49ers.

Other 49er nominees include John Nabers from men's soccer, Mitchell Baldwin from the men's basketball team, and Krystion Obie of the women's basketball team. Obie has been named an alternate in case Huffstetler is unable to attend.

Huffstetler, a third baseman who has been a starter for much of the two seasons she has been with the Niners, will be one of 324 student-athletes chosen to participate in the NCAA Leadership Conference. The five-day conference will consist of lectures, discussions, and group activities during which participants will tackle such topics as decision-making, problem-solving, sportsmanship, and university policies.

Last year's representative for Charlotte at the conference was track and field athlete Bernadette Washington.
