DePaul is one win away from advancing to an NCAA Softball Super Regional after posting a 4-0 shutout of Wisconsin-Green Bay on Saturday at the Goodman Diamond in Madison, Wis. Sophomore Megan Huitink held the Phoenix to a pair of hits and struck out 10, while first baseman Saskia Roberson connected on her second home run of the tournament to lead a five-hit attack for the Blue Demons.

Roberson and designated player Kate Sheaks each homered in a three-run seventh inning for the Blue Demons, who took just a 1-0 lead into the final frame.

Roberson drove in the first run of the game in the opening frame on a RBI-groundout. With her two RBI's in the game, the senior tied Houston's Kristen Glowacz for the all-time Conference USA lead in that category with 175.

The shutout was the second of the tournament for the Blue Demons, who will play the winner of the Oregon State-Wisconsin-Green Bay tilt to be played at 6 p.m., EDT.

Lousville defeats Albany; Eliminated by Northwestern
In South Bend, Ind., Louisville used a three-run seventh inning rally to defeat Albany 5-4 and advance to play Northwestern in an elimination game later on Saturday. Candi Hicks and Courtney Moore hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning as the Cardinals trailed 4-2 entering their final at-bat. Hicks' homer was a two-run shot that tied the game at four, while Moore's was a walk-off solo shot and helped Louisville escape elimination.

Senior Aja Sherman allowed just one hit in six innings of relief to pick up the victory. Hicks, second baseman Michelle Vasquez and catcher Lacy Wood each had two hits for the Cardinals.

On the heels of the dramatic come from behind win over Albany, the Cardinals fell to No. 18 Northwestern, 8-2 saturday night in their third game of the NCAA regional action.

The teams played two scoreless innings before Northwestern broke through with a three-run third. Katie Logan drew a one-out walk and Stephanie Churchwell followed with a single. Erin Mobley's hit down the right field line sent Logan home and Churchwell scored on a Louisville error on the play. Garland Cooper's double plated Mobley to make it a 3-0 game.

Courtney Moore blasted a solo shot over the left field fence to put the Cards on the board in the bottom of the fourth.

The Wildcats struck again with three runs in the fifth and added two more in the sixth to make it an 8-1 game.

Moore delivered her second solo shot of the contest and third of the day in the bottom of the sixth to make it an 8-2 game.

Louisville's Catherine Bishop (21-9) took the loss, allowing eight runs, five earned on 11 hits and striking out eight in seven innings. Offensively the Cards had seven hits in the game and were led by Moore, who finished 2 for 3 with two home runs.

U of L wraps up the 2005 season with a 43-20 overall record, setting a new school mark for wins in a season. The Cards won their Conference USA regular season title, finished runner-up in the league tournament and earned their second consecutive at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

USF Upset by Bethune-Cookman, Rebounds to beat UCF
After waiting through a three hour and twenty-three minute rain delay on Saturday, the Bulls couldn’t overcome a five-run first inning by Bethune-Cookman and lost, 8-4, sending USF to the loser bracket in day two at the NCAA Regional in Gainesville, Fla.

The bottom of the first inning featured three USF errors that allowed three unearned runs to score, giving Bethune-Cookman a 5-0 lead. Two RBI singles by the Wildcats accompanied by the misplays got USF starter Bree Spence pulled in favor of Danielle Urbanik, who walked home a run with the bases loaded. The Bulls eventually got out of the inning but not before the damage was done.

The Bulls (41-27) eventually put two runs on the board in the fifth inning to make the score 8-2. Alycia LePage led off the inning with a bunt single and advanced to third on back-to-back groundouts. With two outs Carmela Liwag hit a triple to right field, scoring the runner from third. Stewart followed that up with an RBI single to cut the Wildcats lead down to six runs.

With one swing of the bat Stewart cut the Wildcats’ lead into half, hitting a two-run home run to centerfield on a full count to make the score 8-4.

However USF’s late-inning offensive production combined with stranding nine base runners in the game was not enough to overcome the four-run deficit by Bethune-Cookman.

The Bulls earned a rematch with Bethune-Cookman in Sunday's Region No. 13 champioship game with a 5-4 victory late Saturday over UCF. USF held a 4-1 lead entering the seventh inning, but the Golden Eagles plated three runs in the top half of the frame to tie the game at four.

The tie did not last long as Samantha Ray delivered the game-winning RBI double in the bottom half of the frame. Krista Holle had a pair of sacrifice flies and scored the first Bulls' run of the game in the second after doubling and scoring on a passed ball. Danielle Urbanik also had a RBI-single in the contest.
