Memphis Wins Its First Women's Soccer Championship

EL PASO, Texas - The 2007 Conference USA Women's Soccer Championship, hosted by UTEP,concluded Sunday in El Paso. No. 2 Memphis upset No. 1 UCF in the championship final, 2-0, to grab the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers claimed the program's first C-USA Championship and will be making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

On Friday, top-seeded UCF defeated No. 5  Rice in the first semifinal game, 1-0. The second semifinal contest saw No. 2 Memphis take out host and No. 3 UTEP, 1-0. UCF and Memphis will meet in Sunday's Championship match to be televised LIVE on CSTV at 2:00 p.m. MST.

Action began on Wednesday, when top-seeded UCF defeated No. 8  East Carolina in the opener, 2-0. No. 5 Rice upset No. 4 UAB, 1-0, in the afternoon contest. In the first evening game, co-regular season champion and No. 2 seed Memphis took out Southern Miss, 6-0. The nightcap featured host UTEP winning a double-overtime thriller over No. 6 seed Colorado College, 3-2.
