Trio of Transfers Bolsters Saint Louis Women's Soccer

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University women's soccer head coach Tim Champion today announced the addition of three transfers to his 2002 roster. Lauren Alberts (St. Louis, Mo./Whitfield) of the University of Richmond, Kara Kornfeld (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) of Indiana University and Kim Sinclair (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu) of Murray State University all chose to return to their hometown and compete for the Billikens. All three will be sophomores with three years of eligibility beginning with the 2002-03 academic year.

"All three of these players bring experience at the Division I level, which immediately makes us a stronger team," Champion said. "I expect all three to challenge for playing time right away."

Alberts joins the Billikens after two years at Richmond. Struggling with illness as a sophomore, Alberts played in seven matches for the Spiders. A four-time All-Conference selection at Whitfield, the midfielder led her high school team in scoring each year

Kornfeld is a staunch defender who started 15 of 17 matches at Indiana last season. Prior to her career as a Hoosier, she was named Missouri Defender of the Year as a senior at Nerinx Hall. A key figure on a team that lost just one game that season, she was named first-team All-State and All-Metro.

Sinclair rounds out the trio after a successful season at Murray State. The midfielder started four of the 11 matches in which she played and earned a spot on the Ohio Valley Conference All-Tournament team. A first-team All-Conference selection as a senior, she helped Cor Jesu to a third-place finish in 1998.

These three players are among 15 newcomers on the Billikens' 2002 roster. Champion's squad opens the regular season on Aug. 30, against Drury at 7 p.m. at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
