Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa athletics director Bubba Cunningham announced today that newly appointed assistant coach Sara Mobley (mob-ley) will serve as interim women's coach. Mobley was named to the position after head coach Trelle McCombs left the school to become the head coach at Texas A&M.

Mobley led Oklahoma City University to NAIA National Championships in each of the last two seasons. She was named the NAIA Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2007. Mobley was also selected as the Sooner Athletic Conference and the NAIA Region IV Coach of the Year in 2006.

"This is a challenge that I'm looking forward to. Obviously, I was expecting to be working with Trelle to rebuild the Tulsa golf program, and I thank her for bringing me to Tulsa," said Mobley. "There is great tradition in women's golf at Tulsa and I hope that I can do my part to help start the rebirth of this program."

Under Mobley's guidance, the Oklahoma City Stars won 14 tournament titles in 21 events. OCU won two NAIA Region VI titles and two Sooner Athletic Conference championships. In 2006, OCU set national tournament record lows for 18, 36, 54 and 72 holes.

Mobley coached 2006 NAIA champion Ashley Sholer, three two-time all-Americans and two one-time All-Americans.

"It's clear that Sara has shown her ability to coach on the collegiate level with back-to-back national titles. She will have to adjust to the Division I level, but I'm confident that she will do fine in the interim," said Cunningham.

McCombs spent one season at Tulsa after spending three years as the head coach at Augusta State. This year the Hurricane had its best finish with a sixth-place performance at the Conference USA Championship.
