NAIA National Champion Coach Sara Mobley Named Assistant Women's Golf Coach at Tulsa
June 1, 2007 Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa named Oklahoma City University women's golf coach Sara Mobley as an assistant golf coach, it was announced today by TU' women's golf coach Trelle McCombs. In two years, Mobley led her OCU teams back-to-back NAIA national championships in each of the last two seasons. Mobley was named the NAIA Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2007. She was also selected as the Sooner Athletic Conference and the NAIA Region IV Coach of the Year in 2006. Under Mobley's guidance, the Stars won 14 tournament titles in 21 events. OCU won two NAIA Region VI titles and two Sooner Athletic Conference championships. In 2006, OCU set national tournament record lows for 18, 36, 54 and 72 holes. Mobley coached 2006 NAIA champion Ashley Sholer, three two-time all-Americans and two one-time All-Americans. "I'm excited to have Sara join our program. With her success at OCU of winning national titles, it's obvious that she is a very good coach, said McCombs. "Having been a collegiate head coach, Sara has great knowledge about the everyday preparation and what it takes to play at the highest level. Sara has a great work ethic and desire to help return the Tulsa golf program to national prominence. "Sara's enthusiasm is contagious and with that she will help instill excitement and fervor into our entire program from the student-athletes to staff, fans and boosters," added McCombs. "I look forward to working with Sara and helping her achieve her goals of eventually becoming a head coach at an NCAA Division I school." Before her stint at OCU, Mobley served as the women's head golf coach at Temple (Texas) High School two years. She was responsible for all facets of the girl's junior varsity and varsity golf programs. Previously, she served as the assistant golf professional at the Troon Golf - Teravista Golf Club in Round Rock, Texas, for three years. "Coming to Tulsa is a dream come true. I'm very excited to get to work with Trelle and be a part of the Tulsa family," "It will be a challenge for me that I'm looking forward to," said Mobley. "It's an honor to be asked to help bring Tulsa back to the powerhouse of women's golf that they have been in the past. I'm really looking forward to learning from Trelle and the University community." "I'd like to thank President Tom McDaniel and Oklahoma City University for giving me the opportunity to be the head coach of such a great team and be part of the OCU program for the past two years," added Mobley. Mobley, 29, also served as a student assistant coach at Northeastern State University in 2000-01 while earning her bachelor's degree in psychology. A native of Midwest City, Okla., Mobley played her junior and senior years at NSU.
