LeFors Paces Red Team To 49-10 Win in Louisville's Annual Spring Game

Senior quarterback Stefan LeFors threw for 424 yards and four touchdowns as the Red Team defeated the White Team, 49-10, Friday night before 12,200 at the University of Louisville's Annual Spring Football game's at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. It was the largest spring game crowd in the history of Louisville football.

Lefors completed 30-of-39 passes on the evening, including 22-of-28 and 325 yards in the first half. Senior wide receiver J.R. Russell caught 11 passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns, while senior wide receiver Joshua Tinch grabbed six passes for 138 yards and a pair of scores.

The Red team dominated the contest, amassing 609 yards of total offense compared to 233 for the White squad.

The Red squad scored twice in the opening frame when junior Eric Shelton plunged in from one yard out and LeFors hit Russell with a two-yard touchdown to make the score, 14-0.

The White got on the board with 12:57 left in the second quarter on a 12-yard touchdown pass from sophomore Justin Rascati to red-shirt freshman Harry Douglas. Rascati was 17-of-27 for 197 yards and one touchdown.

Leading, 14-7, the Red team exploded for three second quarter scores to take a 35-7 lead at the half. Tinch caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from LeFors, senior Lionel Gates had a 17-yard run and Tinch recorded a 41-yard scoring strike from LeFors with 0:59 left in the half. Gates led the Cardinals on the ground with 16 carries for 134 yards and two touchdowns.

Playing with a running clock in the second half, the Red received a seven-yard touchdown pass from LeFors to Russell and a Gates two-yard run closed out the scoring for the Red. Red-shirt freshman Rob Zarrilli hit a 33-yard field goal for the White squad on the first play of the second quarter.
