Bearcat Track and Field Scores Win and School Record at Drake Relays

Des Moines, Iowa---One relay team won it’s event and another set a school record highlighting the University of Cincinnati’s participation in the final day of the prestigious Drake Relays on Saturday.

The men’s team of Brandon Hon (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills), David Payne (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming), Garry Cutright (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) and Jim Ramstetter (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) won the shuttle hurdle relay, posting a time of 57.61, just .18 seconds off the school record.

Payne also placed seventh in the 110 hurdle finals with a mark of 14.99.

On the women’s side, UC’s Laura Valldeperas (Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock), Shanekqua Dunbar (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Pickerington), Erin Bush (Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine) and Amanda Klug (Middletown, Ohio/Mt. Healthy) broke the two-year old school mark, with a new best of 1:00.19 en route to a fifth place finish. The foursome bettered the old record by over four seconds.

Senior Angie Kist (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) rounded out the list of UC’s competitors, placing sixth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:34.48.

The Bearcats will now take a week off in preparation for the 2002 Conference USA Outdoor Championships to be held May 9-11 in Louisville, Ky.
