DePaul Sets Three School Records at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The DePaul contingent has made their mark on the 108th Penn Relays by breaking three school records in the men's and women's 10,000-meter races and the shot put. Chris Birchall set a new mark on the men's side and Erin Moffett broke the women's record on Thursday night. In Friday's action, Frank Guzman continued his outstanding outdoor season by lengthening his school record in the shot put.

Luis Samayoa opened Thursday's events for the Blue Demons by running a personal season-best 14:34.95 in the 5,000-meter run. He placed 11th in a field of 36 runners.

Moffett set her second school record of the season with a time of 34:29.41 in the women's 10,000-meter run. She eclipsed the mark of 34:49.64 set by Anne Kuiken in 1988. Earlier this season she broke the 1,500-meter run record with a time of 4:37.46 at the UNC Classic. She finished eighth in the race.

Birchall placed fourth in the men's 10,000 with a time of 29:29.85 to break the DePaul record that stood since 1984. Jim Fox held that mark for 18 years with a then-record time of 29:51.44.

Guzman extended his own shot put record with a distance of 18.59 meters (61'0") on Friday morning. He placed fifth in the competition and improved his NCAA provisional distance in the process. It also marked the second straight meet that he eclipsed the 60-foot barrier.
