ARNAU BRUGUES - Tulsa
Jr., Barcelona, Spain (Univ. of Barelona)
Brugues opened the season with a No. 6 national ranking in singles and a No. 12 ranking with partner Federico Soriano in doubles and went 2-0 in both singles and doubles in TU's wins against Lamar and Arkansas-Little Rock last weekend. At the No. 1 singles position against Lamar, he defeated Filip Kanczula 7-5, 6-1 and then took out UALR's Dinko Halachev 7-6 (3), 6-3, also at No. 1. He teamed with partner Soriano and dispatched of Lamar's Janjic/Cobb, 8-4, and UALR's Abraso/Roigas, 8-2, both at the number two doubles position. Brugues earned the No. 6 ranking after a spectacular fall in which he won the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championship after winning six-straight matches without losing a set in the main draw. En route to the title he defeated the No. 44, No. 34, No. 61, No. 48, No. 13 and No. 2 ranked players in the nation. This is Brugues' fifth overall C-USA weekly honor after claiming the award four times as a sophomore in 2006.
