Three C-USA Teams Selected for NCAA Women's Golf Regionals
May 1, 2006 IRVING, Texas - In addition to 2006 Conference USA Women's Golf Champion East Carolina, two other C-USA women's golf teams have been selected to compete in the 2006 NCAA Regionals, which will be held May 11-13. SMU and Tulsa received at-large berths to the Regionals. The Pirates will be making a repeat performance in the East Regional, which is hosted by Wake Forest University this season. ECU will not even have to leave its home state as the 21-team field will play on the Bryan Park Golf Course in Bryan Park, N.C. East Carolina earned an automatic berth after winning the first C-USA women's golf title in school history. The Pirates were led by C-USA Freshman of the Year and Championship medalist Lene Krog and All-Conference USA third team selection Heidi Helliesen. SMU and Tulsa, who placed second and third, respectively, at the 2006 C-USA Championship, earned at-large selections to the Central Regional. The Central Regional will be played at The Traditions at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. SMU junior Jennifer Ackerson placed second overall, one-stroke behind Krog, at the C-USA championship and tied the championship record for a low round with a 68 on day two. The Golden Hurricane roster is also deep, with its top four golfers all finishing in the Top 20. Eight teams and two individuals from each region will advance to the NCAA Championships on May 23-26. This year's championship will be held at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, and hosted by The Ohio State University.
