Norris, Knightly Earn Horizon League Honors

Nov. 21, 2002

GREEN BAY, WIS. - Senior Keely Norris was one of twelve players named to the All-Horizon League volleyball team, and freshman Megan Knightly was one of six student-athletes selected to the All-Newcomer team, the League office announced tonight at the 2002 League Volleyball Banquet in Green Bay. UW-Milwaukee's Tari Boutin was cited as the League Player of the Year, while Loyola head coach Liz Nelson was named the Coach of the Year. Cleveland State's Alisa Hatcher and UIC's Meghan Keck were voted as the Co-Newcomers of the Year.

Norris, a 6-1 middle blocker, leads the league with a .330 hitting percentage and ranks eighth in the league in blocks per game. She ranks fifth all-time on Butler's career record list with 1,343 kills, and needs just 13 more kills to move into fourth place. The Bishop Chatard product also ranks in the Top Ten of career block assists (329 - 3rd) and total blocks (399 - 6th). Earlier this season, she was named to all-tournament teams at the Saint Louis Billiken Invitational, the Purdue Mortarboard Premier and the IU Credit Union Classic. She is averaging 3.03 kills per game and has led the Bulldogs in kills on 12 occasions this season. Norris was a Second Team All-League selection as a junior and was cited to the All-Newcomer team as a freshman.

Knightly, a 5-9 outside hitter, averaged 1.49 kills and 2.90 digs per game, which led all Butler newcomers. The Chicago, Ill. native was sidelined for seven matches earlier this season due to a broken right hand, but has been a factor both offensively and defensively while in action. She recorded three double-doubles and led the team in digs on nine occasions.

The third seeded Bulldogs (14-17, 7-7 Horizon League) will take on No. 6 Wright State tomorrow (Nov. 22) in a 12:30 p.m. meeting at the Phoenix Sports Center. The winner of that match will face the winner of the No. 2 UW-Milwaukee/No. 7 Cleveland State match on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and the championship match is slated for 4 p.m. on Sunday.
