Bulldogs Host Wright State In Final Home Outing

Nov. 8, 2002

WELCOMING WRIGHT STATE: The Butler volleyball team hosts Wright State tonight in its final home contest of the season. The Bulldogs (12-16, 5-6 Horizon) are trying to improve upon their fourth place standing in the league, while the Raiders (14-11, 4-7 Horizon) are trying to put a halt to their four-match losing streak. Butler defeated the Raiders earlier this season in a five-game thriller (30-22, 21-30, 30-23, 28-30, 15-10) at C.J. McLin Gymnasium. Kali Carter (21), Keely Norris (18) and Laura Klancnik (10) each recorded double-figures in kills for Butler, while Tricia Naseman tallied a match-high 25 kills for Wright State. Butler leads the overall series between the two programs, 18-10.

GOING THE DISTANCE: After falling to Loyola 3-0 on Friday, the Butler volleyball team pulled out a five-game (30-16, 30-32, 30-18, 27-30, 15-13) triumph over UIC the following afternoon. Keely Norris and Kali Carter each recorded 18 kills in the win, while Areal Bienemy chipped in 17. Amanda Matthews dished out 58 assists to go along with her 10 digs and Kamy Peters led all players with 19 digs.

SENIOR SENDOFF: Tonight's match against the Raiders marks the final home outing for a pair of Butler seniors. Seniors Laura Klancnik and Keely Norris will be honored by their team and the Butler athletic department prior to the start of the match. Klancnik has played in all 28 matches this season, averaging 1.96 kills and 0.74 blocks per game. The 6-1 outside hitter set the school record for hitting efficiency earlier in the season when she hit 1.000 (12-0-12) against Providence. The mark places her in a tie for fifth place in the NCAA record book for a three game match (10-14 attempts). Norris has been a mainstay at the middle position for the last four seasons and is currently averaging 2.86 kills and 0.89 blocks per game. Norris, a product of Bishop Chatard ranks in the top ten of Butler's career kills, block assists and total blocks lists.

UP NEXT: The Bulldogs will hit the road to take on a pair of Ohio Horizon League foes next weekend. Butler will battle it out against Cleveland State on Friday (Nov. 15) at 7 p.m. before taking on Youngstown State on Saturday (Nov. 16) at 4 p.m. The Bulldogs will then travel to Green Bay, Wis. to participate in the Horizon League Championship from Nov. 21-24.
