Bienemy Named Horizon League "Player of the Week"

Oct. 13, 2003

Junior Areal Bienemy has been named the Horizon League "Player of the Week" for Oct. 13 after leading the Bulldogs to a 2-0 week. The middle blocker led the Bulldogs Saturday with 15 kills in the team's 3-0 win over Youngstown State.

Bienemy, who is now second in the league in hitting with a .309 mark, hit .378 (22 kills, five errors, 45 attacks) in the two matches, including an error-free perfromance Friday against Cleveland State. However, it was the Violet, La. product's defensive efforts that stood out this week. Bienemy had 13 total blocks in the two matches and helped to bottle up two of the league's stars over the weekend. The Bulldogs held CSU's Jamie Bouyer to -.038 hitting in the five-game match. The Viking junior entered the match as the league leader. Bienemy also helped hold YSU's Colleen Royer to .129 hitting Saturday.

Bienemy is the first Bulldog to be named the league's volleyball "Player of the Week" in 2003. For the season, Bienemy is second on the team in kills, total blocks and points, while leading the Bulldogs in hitting percentage.
