Butler's Areal Bienemy Named Horizon League Player of the Week
Oct. 11, 2004 The Horizon League has recognized senior Areal Bienemy as its Volleyball "Player of the Week" for the week of Oct. 11, after the Violet, La., native led the Bulldogs to two league wins and into sole possession of the top spot in the league standings. She posted 43 kills and nine blocks in the team's two matches last week. Against defending league champion UW-Green Bay Friday, Bienemy had a match-high 21 kills on .410 hitting. In a showdown of the league's two unbeaten teams Saturday in Indianapolis, Bienemy had a match-high 22 kills and eight blocks, as Butler defeated UW-Milwaukee in five games. On the year, the 2003 AVCA honorable mention All-American and "All-Horizon League" performer is fourth in the league in kills at 4.01 kpg and fifth in blocks, averaging 1.01 bpg. Bienemy, who earned the league honor Oct. 13 of last year, is the first Bulldog to be recognized in 2004. Butler, currently the only undefeated team in league play at 5-0 and 10-7 overall, travels to Chicago this weekend for matches against UIC (Friday, 7 p.m.) and Loyola (Saturday, 4 p.m.). The Bulldogs' next home match is Oct. 22 against Wright State.
