Bulldogs Open League Slate 2-0
Sept. 29, 2003 BREEZING THROUGH THE WINDY CITY: Butler opened Horizon League action with convincing 3-0 wins at Loyola and UIC last weekend. The Bulldogs are one of three league teams to open up conference play at 2-0. Kali Carter led the Bulldogs with two double-doubles and now ranks fourth in the league in kills at 4.16 kpg. Chicago native Megan Knightly posted 16 kills and 23 digs in the two matches. Senior setter Amanda Matthews helped out with 70 assists.
CAN YOU DIG IT?: Freshman Alyssa Cress is second in the Horizon League in digs with 3.91 dpg. Carter is fourth with 3.63. Through two conference matches, Cress leads the league with 6.00 dpg. Carter is second with 4.50 dpg. Knightly is sixth in conference play at 3.83 dpg. Carter and UW-Green Bay's Janelle Tomlinson are the only two Horizon League players with 200 kills and 200 digs on the season, while Cress has registered double figures in digs in 14 of the team's 16 matches. Carter and Cress have each recorded double-figure digs in four straight matches. ODDS AND ENDS: The Bulldogs are 9-2 when Carter leads the team in kills, 1-4 when someone else does...Carter or Bienemy have led the Bulldogs in kills in every match this season...Butler also opened the 1997 league schedule with 3-0 wins at Loyola and UIC. The Bulldogs went on to finish 11-1 in conference play that season and won the MCC Tournament, coincidently with 3-0 tournament decisions over Loyola and UIC in Chicago. MILESTONE WATCH: Matthews is 25 digs shy of 1,000 for her career and 20 kills from 300 for her career...Carter needs 15 digs for 800 for her career...Bienemy is 26 kills short of 600...Knightly is 35 digs shy of 500 for her Butler career...Candice Washington is 10 kills shy of 200...junior Sara Gallagher is eight digs from 300. |
