On the Road with the Bulldogs **Updated Oct. 5**

Oct. 5, 2004

Cleveland State/Youngstown State (Oct. 1-2)

Five hours and 36 minutes was the duration of one of our most lengthy bus rides yet. Two and a half movies, a bag of animal crackers, and a Pop-Tart later we finally arrived at our hotel in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. While it isn't the most exciting or beautiful city the Bulldogs have visited, it sure proved to be a successful trip. The Bulldogs took Cleveland in five games and pulled out another "W" against Youngstown, leaving us 3-0 in the Horizon League. Not to shabby, huh?!

We did manage to have some fun, as we were treated to two awesome dinners at the Winking Lizard and at Alice Cooper's own restaurant, Cooperstown. We celebrated Areal's 1000th career kill with three very large desserts to share--apple pie, cheesecake, and a brownie sundae. Six hours and 25 minutes made up the long trip home from Youngstown. A bag of trail mix, three fruit snacks, and one of Kali's Mom's famous no-bake cookies later, we arrived back at Hinkle Fieldhouse tired, but proud of the work we had just accomplished. Just another good weekend for the Butler Bulldogs.

Sept. 20, 2004

Monday, Sept. 20, following the trip to the Maryland Invitational

Thought I'd give you an update on our trip.

Maryland proved to be a great trip for the Bulldogs. We may not have finished as high as we wanted or expected, but we definitely worked hard and fought hard for each match. We went 1-2 for the tournament playing Georgetown, Northern Arizona, and finally the University of Maryland. Each match had its ups and downs, its successes and its failures, but overall we came out with our heads held high as we battled it out in a good fight against Maryland.

After playing, we were privileged to tour the wonderful city of Washington D.C. I have never been there, and this was a totally new experience for me. Never before had I seen any of the historic monuments including the Lincoln Memorial, Roosevelt Memorial, Vietnam and Korean War Memorials. In addition, we visited the newly opened WWII Memorial. This place really hit home with me as both of my grandfathers served and I know many of their stories from their incredible experience. If you have never seen it, the WWII memorial has pillars representing the states and United States' territories that participated in the war. Being the dedicated Wisconsinite that I am, I diligently sought out Wisconsin's pillar where I met a few men and women from Wisconsin that lived or served in that war. It was amazing talking to them, and after we left I called my grandfather back home to tell him about my visit. Needless to say, it was an experience that I will likely never forget.

We traveled all over the city throughout the day visiting all of the major sites, and when it was done we were happy to head home as the stresses of school were once again upon us.

I wanted to thank all the parents who came to cheer us on and to Mrs. Washington especially for putting together the tour. Wish us luck for the rest of our season, as we plan to keep battling for the Horizon League championship.
