Bulldogs Continue Homestand Against Dayton Tuesday

Sept. 15, 2003

WELCOME HOME: It only took three weeks for the Bulldogs to play their first match at home. Thursday's match against Alabama was the first of 14 matches in Hinkle Fieldhouse for the Bulldogs, not including the Horizon League championship, which Butler hosts Nov. 21-23. The Bulldogs split four matches at home this week and have upcoming home matches against Dayton and Illinois to conclude a six-match homestand.

BY INVITATION ONLY: Three of those four home matches were part of the annual Butler Invitational. The Bulldogs defeated Southern Illinois and Appalachian State in three-game decisions, while dropping a tough, four-game match to undefeated San Francisco. Freshman Krystal Hendrix and junior Kali Carter were named to the All-Tournament Team. Carter has been named to the All-Tournament Team in all three tournaments the Bulldogs have competed in this season. The Invitational champion Dons received 47 votes in the latest USA TodayAVCA Coaches Poll, placing them just out of the Top 25.

BY THE NUMBERS: Butler's .362 (50-12-105) hitting percentage Friday night against Southern Illinois was a season high, one night after the team posted its season low (.025, 39-35-157) against Alabama...if Butler beats Dayton Tuesday night, the win would pull Sharon Clark's career record to .500 (currently 156-157)...either Carter or Areal Bienemy has led the Bulldogs in kills in every match this season...libero Alyssa Cress has recorded at least ten digs in ten of the team's 12 matches...the Bulldogs won ten consecutive points on senior Halston Campagna's serve in the second game of Saturday's match against Appalachian State.

WATCHING THE LEADERBOARD: Senior setter Amanda Matthews recorded her 3,000th career assist in Saturday's match against San Francisco at the Butler Invitational. Matthews' 3,040 assists place her fourth on Butler's career list. Her 2003 average of 10.51 apg places her fourth currently in the Horizon League.

Carter has her eye on Butler's single-season kills per game list. Heading into this week's action, Carter's 4.44 kpg would trail only Amy Pickett's 4.46 average from the 1996 campaign. Through Saturday's matches, Carter is averaging 3.12 kills per game for her career. That figure would place her fifth on Butler's all-time kills per game list. Carter currently is third in the Horizon League in kills per game.
