Butler Volleyball Team Captures Tourney Title
April 4, 2003 INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler volleyball team started off its spring season strong by winning the Butler Invitational, which was held on Saturday at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs won the morning pool with wins over Lincoln Christian and Miami of Ohio. They split games with University of Indianapolis in the afternoon round, but finished the day with a win over Bradley. Other participating teams were Indiana State, Wittenburg, Dayton and IUPUI. "We had a great opening weekend," said assistant coach Karen Weatherington. "I was encouraged to see the Butler team and assess the players since this is my first week on staff. It also served as the first opportunities to see significant playing time for all but two players. Although we were with out Areal (Bienemy), who sat the weekend with a sore knee, many players stepped up filled the adjustments in the system." Butler will face IUPUI on Saturday in a noon match. |
