IPFW Tops Bulldogs, 3-1
Oct. 26, 2006
Indianapolis, Ind. - The Butler volleyball team continued their blocking dominance against IPFW on Thursday (Oct. 26) evening, but the Mastodons rode four players in double-digit kills to a 30-24, 24-30, 30-21, 30-24 victory over the Bulldogs at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Butler (7-17) tied a school record with nine service aces in the match, including four by Adrianna Higle and three by Krystal Hendrix. The Bulldogs also out-blocked the Mastodons 12-5, the 19th time in 24 matches that Butler has held an edge on an opponent in blocking.
However, IPFW (20-10) held a decisive edge on offense, knocking down 75 kills on .231 hitting thanks to four players recording double-figure kills.
"We played great in stretches, but we have to get beyond that and keep it together," head coach Sharon Clark said. "We had a great night blocking as a team, and we beat them quite a few categories, but we need to have our offense step up. We need to have somebody else put the ball away."
Michelle DeGeeter paced the Bulldogs with 13 kills and six blocks, while Stephanie Steele led all players with a .471 attack percentage (8-0-17). With three block assists on the night, Hendrix now touts 392 in her career and is just 21 behind school-record-holder Amy Pickett with 413.
Butler returns to Hinkle Fieldhouse Friday (Oct. 27) night when they battle Horizon League foe Wright State beginning at 7:00 p.m.
