Bulldogs Fall In Two Close Matches To Western Illinois, DePaul

Macomb, Ill. - The Butler volleyball team continued to dominate defensively at the net, out-blocking their opponents 20-7, but the Bulldogs fell in a close 3-0 match to Western Illinois before dropping a 3-1 contest to DePaul on the final day of the Western Illinois Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 9). Butler combined for 10 blocks and hit .205 with 39 kills, but came up just short to WIU in a 30-25, 30-28, 30-22. In the second game against DePaul, the Bulldogs again put-back 10 blocks, but the Blue Demons held on for a four-game win (30-26, 26-30, 30-18, 30-24). Senior Krystal Hendrix continued to dominate on offense and defense. She paced the squad with 11 kills against Western Illinois before adding a team-high 13 kills and a .444 attack percentage against DePaul. Junior Michelle DeGeeter added 10 kills each against both opponents. "Our recent injuries really caught up to us today," head coach Sharon Clark said, "but it gave our younger players a chance to step in, and they did a great job for us. Krystal [Hendrix] and Michelle [DeGeeter] both continued to be solid for us on offense and defense."
The Bulldogs return to Indianapolis on Tuesday (Sept. 12) when travel to IUPUI for a 7:00 p.m. match.
